Since January 2004, Redeemer has met for public worship. What began as a dream of a new church near the University and downtown was becoming a reality. Over the last 4 years Redeemer has experienced growth not only in membership and Sunday worshippers, but also in other ways, such as peace, unity, and vision. The good news of Jesus continues to be our one core value of which all other things in the life of the church center around.

Redeemer has also experienced growth with our leadership. Paul Hahn and Josh Eby were originally called to serve as the team of church planters. The moved to Knoxville and began working with Redeemer in September 2003. In February 2004, Chris Talley came on the team of church planters as a 'tent-maker', and has since joined the staff in a full-time capacity. Matt Grimsley joined this team of church planters in June 2005 as Redeemer chief musician. And Lee Leadbetter began a pastoral internship with Redeemer in September 2006. He is in process of beginning an International RUF here on the campus of UT.

Over the last year and a half, we have seen one further siginificant development. Redeemer has been moving from a mission work to a recognized, established church. This has involved recognizing those men God has called in the church to serve as elders and deacons. On Sunday evening, January 13, Redeemer will celebrate a "Particularization Service" where our church will formally petition the TN Valley Presbytery to be received as a church, our elders and deacons will be ordained and/or installed and the church planters will be installed as the pastors of Redeemer.

Chris Talley

Chris joined the Redeemer team in February of 2004 as the church's first Administrator. He is married to his wife, Beth (of 14 years), with whom he has great joy in raising their three children: Emma, Kaley and Nathanael. Sensing God's call, he went on to study at Reformed Seminary in Orlando. After serving as youth director for two different churches, Chris pastored a small EPC congregation for three years in the panhandle of Florida. Moving to Knoxville in October 2002, Chris and his family became involved with the Redeemer church plant in March 2003, before coming on staff. Three years later, Chris formally joined the team of church pastors in February 2007. Today, he serves as associate pastor of community.
